Anime [edit]

An anime adaptation of the series was announced on Apr 2, 2017. It was initially teased as an accommodation of Hoshiiro Girldrop on April Fool'southward Day 2017. The anime features animation by Kamikaze Douga and production past Male monarch Records,[20] and is directed by Jun Aoki and Aoi Umeki.[21] The serial aired on BS11 for 12 episodes between January vii and March 25, 2018, post-obit a delay from October 2017 due to an "error by King Records".[9] [22] A television special aired on Apr 1, 2019 which consists of episodes xiii and 14.[23]

Taking later its source manga, the anime takes the form of an animated parody prove, featuring numerous, typically disjointed skits of varying lengths; while some of these shorts are adapted from the original comic strips, the majority of them are original creations. The diverse shorts collectively showcase a multifariousness of animation styles, most often CGI, professional-looking 2nd animation, and idiosyncratic blitheness from Squad Air-conditioning ( AC部 , AC-bu ). Each half-hour episode features two almost-identical xv-minute segments, each containing different vocalisation actors and other subtle differences.

The opening theme for episodes 2-ten is "Popular Squad Epic" (remixed every bit "Pop Team Epic (Rebroadcasting Mix)" for the residue of the series, except for the terminal two episodes, in Pop Team Epic Repeat) by Sumire Uesaka,[24] while the catastrophe theme titled "Poppy Pappy Solar day" is sung by Popuko (Yui Makino/Kenji Akabane (ep 1-6), Hiromi Igarashi/Toshiki Masuda (ep 8–ix, 11)) and Pipimi (Yui Watanabe/Shunsuke Takeuchi (ep 1-6), Rei Matsuzaki/Wataru Hatano (ep 8–nine, 11)), with Shouta Aoi performing the theme for episode 12. The catastrophe theme for episode 10 is "Jinsei" ( 人生 , lit. life) also by the Igarashi/Matsuzaki and Masuda/Hatano duos. The opening theme for episode one, which opened with a Hoshiiro Girldrop segment, is "Twinkling Star" past Drop Stars (Yui Ogura, Inori Minase, and Uesaka).[25] Episode 12 used the classical music pieces Nighttime on Bald Mount and Dies Irae in its storyline. The opening theme for the first half of the special is "terminal sparkle" by Uesaka, while the second half uses the opening theme, "Pretty candle star" by Drop Stars (Ogura, Minase, and Uesaka) in the showtime part and parodied by Shunsuke Itakura and Tōru Adachi of Squad Air conditioning (voicing as Korona Yuhi) in the 2nd part. The insert vocal and ending theme for the first half are "Popuko ni Sauce" ( ポプ子にソース , lit. "Sauce for Popuko" ) and "Fûsen Hikô" ( 風船飛行 , lit. "Balloon Flight" ), respectively; both are sung by Popuko (Yuka Ozaki/Kent Ito) and Pipimi (Aya Uchida/Ryuichi Kijima). The insert song for the second half is "Bansaku neender", sung by the Ozaki/Uchida and Ito/Kijima duos, with Aoi singing his version of the ending theme "Fūsen Hikō" ( 風船飛行 , lit. "Balloon Flight" ), as well equally his own ending theme, "AOI Traveler."

The series was renewed for a second season on December 26, 2021, post-obit the finale of Popular Team Epic Echo. It is ready to premiere in Oct 2022.[26] [27]

Sentai Filmworks simulcast the serial on Hidive.[28] Crunchyroll simulcast the series worldwide outside of Asia.[29] Funimation simulcast the English-dubbed version in English-speaking territories every bit information technology aired;[30] Funimation also acquired the rights to release the anime on home video in North America.[31] Funimation also arranged the series to air on Developed Swim's Toonami programming cake starting on July 1, 2018.[32] In Australia and New Zealand, the serial simulcast on AnimeLab.[33] Aniplus Asia simulcast the series in Southeast Asia.[1] The series became available on Netflix in Feb 2020 in what was originally 11-minute episodes. It was replaced by the original half-hour format due to complaints from users.[34] A remixed rerun titled Pop Team Epic Repeat, which mixes up the voice actors from the original run, began ambulation from October 9, 2021 and is being simulcast by Crunchyroll.[35] It also features re-recorded versions of the AC-BU segments and Japanese dubs of the Japon Mignon segments. At that place are besides visual differences in the Echo version.
